Job Details

|
This position reports to the Principal, School for the Blind, and is responsible for providing standards-based instruction to elementary, middle school, high school, and transition-aged students who are visually impaired, and who may have other disabilities. Utilizes Colorado State Standards and benchmarks in establishing instructional goals; and provides assessments that measure whether students meet standards, in a safe and civil school environment.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education or closely related field from an accredited college or university, with specialization in Vision Education; must hold or be eligible for appropriate educator license in the State of Colorado; Must hold or be eligible for appropriate educator licensure in the State of Colorado, endorsed as a Special Education Specialist: Visually Impaired, or comparable endorsement; Subject area endorsement or specialization; Experience teaching / working with children (in an educational environment) with visual impairments and/or multiple disabilities; Ability to demonstrate competency in Braille within one (1) year of hire, as evidenced by possession of a CDE Certificate of Braille Competency; Proficiency, or commitment to work toward proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the Novice skill level as demonstrated through an appropriate assessment tool and according to school policy.
